RE:  Please Contact the USDOE in Support of WV Coal-fired Electricity

As you are likely aware, on April 14, 2017 Secretary of Energy Rick Perry ordered the Department of Energy to study and analyze electricity markets and reliability and report back to him by mid-June. The West Virginia Coal Association believes that this report should conclude that markets are not recognizing baseload coal generation resources for their on-site fuel supply and important contributions to strengthen energy grid resilience.

The nation has reached a crisis point.  Inadequate compensation has caused many coal plants to prematurely retire, and many more face economic challenges and are likely to disappear forever unless immediate action is taken.

As a member of the West Virginia Coal Association, you understand the importance of these coal fired power plants to the nation, and to your business.

We are asking for your help.  Please contact Energy Secretary Perry and voice your support for baseload coal power plants.  Timing is critical – the  report is due in mid-June – and we need you to reach out to Energy Secretary Perry as soon as possible.

Please click here (PDF) for a sample letter that we ask you to personalize and email your letter in support to Joe.Uddo@hq.doe.gov with copies to Brian.McCormack@hq.doe.gov and to our office at WVCoal.com.

We thank you for your support of this effort and your support of West Virginia Coal-Fired Electricity.
