Alpha Mining Affiliates Garner Safety Awards
June 13, 2017 - Six mining operations affiliated with Alpha Natural Resources were recently recognized for outstanding safety performance.
The affiliates operating in West Virginia were honored for safety achievements by the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association, according to a written statement. The association is a nonprofit organization that promotes health and safety in the mining industry in West Virginia coal mines and facilities.
It consists of representatives from federal and state governments, mining organizations and labor.
The cited operations include underground facilities Marfork Coal Co. Coon Cedar Grove mine; Kingston Mining, Kingston No. 2 mine; Mammoth Coal Co. Slabcamp mine; and surface operations Brooks Run Mining Co. Seven Pines preparation plants and loadouts; Delbarton Mining, Delbarton preparation plant and Black Castle Mining, Homer III [Admiral] processing plant.
Four of the operations are repeat winners of the Holmes Safety Award. Coon Cedar, Slabcamp, the Delbarton plant and the Homer III/Admiral plant were similarly honored last year.
“We are proud of the safety achievements of our miners,” said Brian Keaton, Alpha’s senior vice president of safety and health. “Safety is a value year-round, and getting our employees home safely is paramount, so it is gratifying to see these employees honored for the focus and attention they place on the safety of their fellow employees.”
