Ukraine's Energy Minister to Travel to US to Hold Talks on Anthracite Coal Purchase

June 16, 2017 - Ukraine’s Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalik will soon travel to the United States to hold talks on the supplies of American anthracite coal to Ukraine.

Acting Head of the National Energy Company Ukrenergo, Vsevolod Kovalchuk, stated this at a press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“We hope that anthracite coal will be supplied from the United States, our minister is expected to pay a visit there in the near future. I’m sure that these negotiations will be effective. And we should understand that the launch of coal production at inactive mines and its logistics will take several months,” Kovalchuk said.

As Ukrinform earlier reported, Ukraine expects to import 2.5-3 million tons of anthracite coal from the US.
