New Coal India Chairman Announced

 

 

May 20, 2018 - Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) Chairman and Managing Director Anil Kumar Jha has taken over as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Coal India Limited, the largest coal mining company in the world.


Jha is the 27th Chairman of Coal India. He would continue in the post until his superannuation on January 31, 2020.


Jha is an officer with humane touch. Born in 1960 in Jharkhand, he is a mining graduate and MTech from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.


Jha, who started his career with the Coal India as a Junior Executive (Trainee) in 1983, joined the MCL as CMD in 2015. The MCL, the youngest Coal India subsidiary, achieved greater heights under Jha’s leadership despite tough operational challenges. Under his command, the MCL recorded its highest-ever production at 143.06 MT during the year ended on March 31, 2018, which was 2.8% up against 139.21 MT mined during 2016-17.


Dedicating his elevation to all MCL stakeholders, Jha said, “It has been the dedication and efforts of each member of Team MCL that has made this company successful and I being given a higher responsibility by the Government of India.”
