Old Construction & Mining Equipment Show Attracts Enthusiasts

September 1, 2018 - The Ohio Valley Chapter of the Historical Construction Equipment Association announced the 15th annual Old Construction & Mining Equipment Show will be Sept. 8 and 9 on Ohio 519 (Stumptown Road) between U.S. 22 and New Athens, just over 1 mile west of New Athens.

Antique trucks, construction and mining will be on static display and in operation throughout the weekend. Equipment owned by the Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park, members of the HCRHP, Ohio Valley Chapter of the Historical Construction Equipment Association, Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club Chapter 22 and other organizations will be displayed or in operation. Equipment will include draglines, shovels, trucks, crawlers, dozers and more.

The show will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Silver Spade operators cab and bucket will be located on the grounds. The Silver Spade operators cab was painted last year to the original colors it was in 1965.

During show time and special events, the location will be open to the public.

It is currently in the works to have a steam traction engine to pull a piece of construction equipment for this year's show. Visit their Facebook page for updates.

A Cat D8 cable blade dozer recently donated by the Nick Puskarich family to the Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park should be on the grounds by show time.

This year's show is being dedicated to Dave McDonnell from Germantown, Ohio, who died from cancer last November. McDonnell and his wife Nancy would bring antique trucks and a Cat D4 dozer to the show. McDonnell also would help operate and help others do any needed maintenance on machinery at the show.

An employment recruiter for the mining industry will have a booth at this year's show. Edgar Browning, author of "Ohio Road Building" and related books for other states, has expressed interest in being at the show this year. It will be posted on their Facebook page once they get official word that Browning will be at the show.

The event has become a miner's and construction worker's reunion. Many people that have worked or currently still work in the mining, construction and excavating industries have attended the show in the past.

Some of the tentative food items include pulled pork, smoked ham, loaded baked potato and other items.

All antique trucks, construction, crawler and mining (surface or underground) equipment are welcome. Exhibitor camping is available on site. Photo and history displays also are welcome.

Friday is set-up day for anyone wishing to bring in their antique trucks, crawler, construction and mining equipment before the show.

Admission is $3 per person.
