Blackjewel Agrees to Halt Coal Movement in Kentucky and Virginia

August 21, 2019 - Court documents confirm that Blackjewel is agreeing to halt any movement of coal in Virginia and Kentucky.

The agreement is in response to federal labor officials intervening in Blackjewel’s bankruptcy proceedings to halt the transport and sale of coal until miners get paid.

Hundreds of miners in Virginia and surrounding states have been seeking help getting their pay since Blackjewel suddenly filed for bankruptcy on July 1. Records in bankruptcy court in West Virginia show that Blackjewel agrees that until the employees’ pay issue is resolved, the company will not ship, deliver, or sell coal mined, processed or stored.

That includes coal storage in Raven, Honaker and Appalachia in Southwest Virginia.
