August 4, 2024 - Below is a message from Chris Hamilton, President & CEO, West Virginia Coal Association: The General Election is less than 100 days away and it’s time to elevate our election activity beginning with the selection of our endorsements for the November 5th Election and shoring up our PAC account. Here is a list of individuals we endorsed for the May Primary Election who won their party’s nomination. These individuals will automatically be endorsed this fall unless objections are recorded. Also please find a complete list of candidates appearing on the ballot for the General Election which may be accessed here https://apps.sos.wv.gov/
Please let us know by August 15th if you would like us to consider any individual(s) for endorsement especially those candidates who reside or represent areas where you have mining operations or businesses. Please feel free to provide Jason or me with any information you deem useful in our selection process.
During the Primary, we wholeheartedly endorsed Donald J. Trump for President and Governor James Justice for the US Senate, Carol Miller for WV’s 1st Congressional District, current State Treasurer Riley Moore for WV’s 2nd Congressional District, Justice Haley Bunn for reelection to the WV Supreme Court in Division 1. and current State Senator Charlie Trump for the high court in Division 2.
Please consider a personal contribution to our Political Action Committee - West Virginians For Coal - so we can provide greater financial support to those candidates that help us the most. Although PAC contributions in any amount are greatly appreciated, the maximum individual campaign contribution is $2800 per election or $5600 per election cycle. If your Company has a PAC, it may contribute up to $5,000 directly to West Virginians For Coal.
We are also asking you and your company to consider a corporate contribution to the “Coal Victory PAC” which is an “Independent Expenditure” designed to expend funds in support of our endorsed candidates.
The Coal Victory PAC will sponsor radio ads and direct mail pieces independently of candidates running for election.
We have multiple opportunities this fall to pick up several strong candidates for West Virginia’s Executive Offices and State Legislature. Please help us ensure that our Association retains its strong voice in public policy matters affecting coal and energy. All PAC contributions should be mailed to the Association Office at 200 Association Drive, Suite 160, Charleston WV 25311.
Thank you for your continued support!
