Coal Symposium Returning to West Virginia Next Week
August 8, 2024 - The city of Princeton is gearing up to welcome leaders in the coal mining industry next week for the Bluefield Coal Symposium.
The event will kick off Monday evening at the Chuck Mathena Center, being put on by the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias. The event’s purpose is to provide a better understanding of coal mine safety as well as examine the challenges and opportunities for the industry.
Jeff Disibbio, the president and CEO of the chamber says despite the loss of coal jobs in recent decades it’s still important to bring these voices to town.
“As of now it’s still an industry that helps drive our area. Of course we’re here to support all our industries,” said Disibbio. “This is just one we’re willing to do. This is historically an event we’ve had and we still advocate for it and any industry in our area that will help grow.”
Disibbio adds the coal symposium has been held in the area before but it has been absent for a few years due to COVID-19. The event will last Monday through Wednesday.
Guest speakers from across the country are expected to speak to attendees at the event.
