Mine Fatality Reported in West Virginia

 

 

August 10, 2024 - The U.S. Office of Mine Safety and Health Administration has reported a fatality at the Arch Resources Leer Mine in Taylor County.


Monday's mine fatality in Taylor County was the state's third this year.


The incident time was 5:55 a.m. Monday, and involved power haulage, according to the department's website.


Bituminous coal is mined underground at the site.


Further details weren't immediately available.


This is the third mining fatality in West Virginia in 2024. The other two were in Wyoming County, on May 16 and July 12. Both involved surface mining.
