Egypt Country Analysis Brief



August 15, 2024 - Egypt is a significant and geographically important hydrocarbon producer. Egypt received a substantial boost to its natural gas production in the mid-2010s when major offshore fields, such as the Zohr field, were developed. Egypt operates the Suez Canal and the Suez-Mediterranean (SUMED) Pipeline; both of which are crucial midstream infrastructure for international energy markets. Egypt has also sought to position itself as the regional export hub for LNG. Egypt is the only country in the Eastern Mediterranean region with operational LNG export capacity.
