Get to Know CORESafety: A Pathway to Safety and Health for All Mining Companies

May 2, 2016 - In the five years since CORESafety was developed and launched, the mining industry as a whole has seen measurable reductions in the overall number of safety and health incidents.

The year 2015 stands out in particular as the safest ever on record in terms of fatalities and accidents, and undoubtedly the implementation of safety and health management systems (including CORESafety) played a significant role in this achievement.

We believe there are real opportunities now in place for the industry to build upon the success of 2015, and to make even greater safety strides in 2016.

If you’re new to CORESafety, it was developed by safety and health professionals from members of the National Mining Association (NMA) with an objective of having zero fatalities and a 50 percent reduction in injuries rates within five years (0:50:5).

CORESafety’s approach to mining safety and health is to prevent accidents before they happen, using recognized risk management tools to identify and eliminate potentially hazardous situations before accidents occur.

There are 20 CORESafety modules designed to be readily implemented within any mining company, and there is no charge for their use.

Over the next few months, each of these e-comms will focus on one of the CORESafety modules to introduce (or re-introduce) companies like yours to the benefits of this important initiative.

We encourage you to explore everything the CORESafety and Health Management System has to offer by first visiting our website at www.CORESafety.org and then performing a gap analysis to determine how it can support any safety and health management system you currently have in place.

Taking action now could still make 2016 your safest year ever.
