EIA's Electric Power Monthly and Electricity Monthly Update—November 2022
November 23, 2022 - EIA has released the November 2022 Electricity Monthly Update with data for September 2022. The following are some highlights:
- California (CAISO) electricity demand set a new all-time high of 51.1 gigawatts on September 6 due to a severe heat wave.
- Wholesale daily electricity prices far exceeded previous 12-month highs in the Northwest (Mid-C), Southwest (Palo Verde), and California (CAISO).
- Total U.S. coal stockpiles increased month over month by 5.1%, reaching 80 million tons in September 2022.
The report also includes a feature article about how U.S. electricity customers experienced seven hours of power interruptions in 2021.
We have released the November 2022 Electric Power Monthly with data for September 2022. The following are some highlights:
- Net generation in the United States rose 0.9% from the September 2021 level.
- Consumption of natural gas for power generation was up 13.2% compared with September 2021.
- The average residential retail price of electricity was up 15.4% from the September 2021 level.
