October 3, 2024 - Below is a message from Chris Hamilton, President, West Virginia Coal Association:
Here please find the Association's endorsements for the November 5th General Election.
These candidates for public office are strong supporters of the coal industry and we encourage you to make every attempt possible to support their candidacy and encourage others within your circle of business colleagues, friends, and family members to support them as well. The General Election is set for Tuesday, November 5th.
We wholeheartedly endorse Donald J. Trump for President and Governor James Justice for the US Seate seat vacated by Joe Manchin. For the US House of Representatives, we are proud to endorse Carol Miller for WV’s 1st Congressional District and current State Treasurer Riley Moore for WV’s 2nd Congressional District.
Additionally, we have endorsed Attorney General Patrick Morrisey for Governor, Auditor JB McCuskey for Attorney General, Secretary of Tax and Revenue Larry Pack for Treasurer, Kent Leonhardt for Agriculture Commissioner, Kris Warner Delegate for Secretary of State and Senator Mark Hunt for Auditor.
We have also endorsed a total of 17 candidates for the State Senate and 82 candidates for the WV House of Delegates. Many of these individuals are incumbents or currently hold office with strong pro-coal voting records.
We are also asking for you to consider a personal contribution to our Political Action Committee — West Virginians For Coal. The maximum individual campaign contribution is $5000 per calendar year.
If your Company has a PAC, it may contribute up to $5,000 directly to West Virginians For Coal. Individual campaign contributions to federal candidates cannot exceed $3300 per election or $6600 per election cycle including the Primary and General Elections. Candidates for state office are limited to $2800 from any one individual per election or $5600 per election cycle.
We are also asking you and your company to consider a corporate contribution to the “Coal Victory PAC” which is an “Independent Expenditure” designed to expend funds in support of our endorsed candidates. The Coal Victory PAC will sponsor radio ads and direct mail pieces independently of candidates running for election.
Given the importance of this year’s election, please encourage all employees to get out the vote. Early voting will begin on October 23rd and conclude on Saturday, November 2nd. You must register to vote no later than October 15th.
We have multiple opportunities this fall to pick up several strong candidates for the State Legislature. Please help us to help coal maintain its strong voice in public policy matters affecting coal and energy. All PAC contributions should be mailed to the Association Office at 200 Association Drive, Suite 160, Charleston WV 25311.
