Alabama Secretary of State Doubles Down on Data Mining Operation League of Women Voters
October 12, 2024 - For decades, the League of Women Voters has been referred to as a "nonpartisan" organization.
According to Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, that is not true.
During a speech to the Eastern Shore Republican Women on Thursday, Allen doubled down on an earlier criticism of the organization and warned attendees not to be fooled by some of their alleged efforts.
“There are a lot of groups that do not believe like us in this room that are out there working extremely hard, especially in District 2 getting folks registered to vote," he said. “[Y]ou’ll see a lot of things, like these pre-filled voter registration forms that go out that we get phone calls on … it just causes confusion that we have to end up cleaning up in our office.”
Allen named the League of Women Voters specifically and rejected their claim to be "nonpartisan" despite media claims as such. He accused the organization of "data mining" in some of their efforts.
“Some of these so-called nonpartisan groups that you hear about that hide behind their 501(c)(4) status, they are not nonpartisan. They are the furthest thing from nonpartisan as I have ever seen. When you’ve got these groups like the Voter Participation Center, just go look at their website. They are targeting coalitions, targeting voters that do not have the same worldview as you and I in this room. … They are data mining as well. The League of Women Voters is data mining as well. The League of Women Voters pretends to be a nonpartisan group. They are very partisan. Go research the leadership of the League of Women Voters and see who they donate money to and those candidates. Go look at them. They are not nonpartisan. Don’t be deceived by the media. When they start throwing out these spokesmen for the League of Women Voters, and they’re nonpartisan this and nonpartisan that, do not believe it. They are data mining. I called them out on it, they didn’t like it too much. I will continue to call them out on it on their website. … They’re liberal.”
