November 1, 2024 - After over three years of work between 89 authors and 69 peer reviewers from across the globe, “Mine Safety and Health Handbook: Approaches from the Field” is now available via the SME Bookstore. The book, edited by Emily J. Haas, PhD, is SME’s newest title and serves as an all-encompassing resource for practitioners, researchers, instructors, students, and safety and health advocates.
Spanning over 850 pages, the book offers exclusive technical information around theories and frameworks that seek to advance the tangible knowledge around safety and health management, which is critical to implement programs and practices in the field.
“The combination of hearing about the need for a safety and health handbook for several years and progressing my own research designing and executing workplace interventions, I wanted to not only fill this gap, but also felt like I could provide a holistic view when recruiting for and editing the book to ensure a systems approach was evident in tying the topics together,” said Haas, the current Associate Director for Science at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Division of Safety Research.
As the mining industry evolves, new safety and health risks will emerge. This handbook not only addresses current challenges but also prepares industry leaders to adapt by fostering a culture of safety, inclusivity and well-being.
“Mine Safety and Health Handbook: Approaches from the Field” is available in both print and eBook formats. Special pricing is provided to SME members, as well as to students.
