West Virginia's soon-to-be senior senator U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito has been elevated to the number 4 spot on the party's leadership team by her Senate colleagues.

Senator Capito will serve as Chair of the Republican Policy Committee and Chair of the powerful Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works.

Republican senators also elected their new majority leader, John Thune of South Dakota. He succeeds Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
