Ukraine's DTEK Energy Launches 18 New Coal Mine Faces in Jan-Oct 2024
November 15, 2024 - Miners of Ukraine's DTEK Energy put 18 new coal mine faces into operation in January-October 2024, with plans to commission eight more in November-December of this year, Ukrainian media said, citing the company's statement.
"Thanks to the miners' efforts, we managed to accumulate the required stocks of fuel to get through the autumn-winter season and support thermal power plants' fuel needs during electricity consumption peaks. For that to become possible, we have invested more than 6.5 billion hryvni in coal mining since the beginning of the year and plan to bring these investments to 7.6 billion hryvni before the end of the year," DTEK Energy CEO Alexander Fomenko was quoted by the statement as saying.
These investments help fund construction and maintenance of capital mine workings, equipping coal faces, providing mines with tunneling equipment, underground mine transport, as well as projects to maintain production facilities.
As reported, DTEK Energy put 26 new coal mine faces into operation in 2023. The company nearly doubled its investment in Ukraine's coal mining to around UAH 7 billion in 2023 year-on-year.
DTEK Energy provides a closed cycle of electricity production from coal. The installed capacity in thermal electricity generation totaled 13.3 GW as of January 2022. A full production cycle has been created in coal mining, including extracting and washing coal, as well as machinery manufacturing and servicing mining equipment.
