January 2, 2025 - An Appalachian singer-songwriter was featured in a unique West Virginia location on the annual "New Year's Rockin' Eve" television program Tuesday night.

Oliver Anthony was filmed on a subterranean stage, performing for coal miners in McDowell County. 

A clip of Anthony performing "Rich Men North of Richmond" in southern West Virginia surfaced on New Year's Eve. 

The tune, which touches on issues such as poverty, hunger and political inequality, went viral in August 2023 after resonating with working-class America and has since racked up more than 50 million views on YouTube. 

The city of Welch thanked Anthony for the performance and invited the Virginia native back for an appearance at the annual State BBQ Championship.
