Train Derails in Virginia; No Injuries or Environmental Risks Reported

 


January 7, 2025 - Early Tuesday morning, a coal train traveling through Fluvanna County, Virginia derailed near Bremo Bluff, according to the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:53 a.m., involved multiple loaded coal cars overturning along the southeastern border of the county. Emergency responders, including the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department’s Palmyra and Fork Union companies, and Fluvanna County Emergency Services, arrived on the scene to assess the situation. Authorities have reported no injuries from the derailment and say that there are no immediate environmental concerns. According to the Sheriff’s Department, traffic in the area remains unaffected and there is no ongoing risk to residents or visitors. CSX representatives are on-site, working to determine the cause of the derailment and coordinating recovery and cleanup efforts.
