Allegheny Metallurgical Joins Metallurgical Coal Producers Association
July 31, 2025 - The Metallurgical Coal Producers Association (MCPA) has announced that Allegheny Metallurgical has officially joined as the association’s newest producing member. The addition of Allegheny Metallurgical marks the seventh producing member to join MCPA since its inception in 2020, further strengthening the association’s collective voice and reach.
Founded with just four producers, MCPA now represents over 50% of U.S. metallurgical coal production, totaling 36.5 million tons annually from 89 coal mines across four states—Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MCPA member companies employ more than 10,000 workers, supporting thousands of families and local economies throughout Central Appalachia and beyond.
“We are excited to join a growing association that is working to ensure metallurgical coal producers have a strong and united voice,” said Perry Longacre, CEO of Allegheny Metallurgical. “MCPA’s advocacy, outreach, and focus on the future of our industry aligns with our values and long-term vision. We’re proud to be part of this network of producers who are committed to excellence and sustainable mining of metallurgical coal.”
Allegheny Metallurgical, based in northern West Virginia, is one of the nation’s leading new metallurgical coal operations, focused on producing high-quality coal for the global steelmaking market. With an estimated 3.1 million tons produced annually, a 25+ year reserve life, and 75 million tons of metallurgical coal to extract and process, the company is strategically positioned to be a reliable and sustainable source of met coal for decades to come.
