EIA's Annual Coal Report 2018 Released

October 4, 2019 - EIA has released the Annual Coal Report (ACR) 2018. The Annual Coal Report (ACR) provides 2018 annual data on U.S. coal production, number of mines, productive capacity, recoverable reserves, employment, productivity, consumption, stocks, and prices.  For questions about the data, email us at InfoCoal@eia.gov.

Publication changes this year include:

· Additional information on surface mines. Tables 3.1, 13.1, 16.1, 22.1, and 29.1 report production, productive capacity and capacity utilization, recoverable reserves, productivity, and average sales price by state and surface mining method.

· A change in methodology for data on underground mines. Tables 3, 13, 16, 22, and 29 report production, productive capacity and capacity utilization, recoverable reserves, productivity, average sales price by state and mining method for underground mines. The data in the tables are now weighted by the share of underground mining methods. Previously, all data were allocated to the predominant mining method reported by each mine.

· An expansion of Table ES-5 to include 2001–2010 data. This table presents the average export and import prices of metallurgical coal, non-metallurgical coal, and coke.

A mine-level data file for 2018 from the Form EIA-7A and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration has also been posted, https://www.eia.gov/coal/data.php#production.
