October 1, 2020 - China is the world's most populous country with a fast-growing economy that has led it to be the largest energy consumer and producer in the world. Rapidly increasing energy demand, especially for petroleum and other liquids and natural gas, has made China influential in world energy markets. Although a majority of China’s energy is from coal, the country is diversifying its energy portfolio to curtail heavy air pollution and use more cleaner burning fuels.
