Stetson, Campbell, Schroder to Lead CEO Panel at MCPA Annual Conference

 

 

July 27, 2021 - Top executives from the Metallurgical Coal Producers Association’s (MCPA) member companies will lead the “CEO Panel” during this year’s annual conference, which will be held September 26-28 at the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia.  Executives David Stetson (Alpha Metallurgical Resources), Jim Campbell (Coronado Global), and John Schroder (United Coal Company, a subsidiary of Metinvest) will discuss the significance of metallurgical coal as it relates to the future of the broader coal industry and the global economy.


“The Metallurgical Coal Producers Association benefits from the collective guidance of the top executives at each our producing member companies. David Stetson


David J. Stetson has served as chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors for Alpha Metallurgical Resources since July 2019, and as chair of the board of directors since August 2019. Mr. Stetson also serves as the chairman of the MCPA. He previously served on Contura Energy’s board of directors from November 2018 through April 2019. Mr. Stetson has extensive experience in management, finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, restructuring, the law and reclamation, having most recently served as chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of both ANR, Inc. and Alpha Natural Resources Holdings, Inc. (together, Alpha) from July 2016 until the merger with Contura in November 2018. Prior to joining Alpha, Mr. Stetson held a number of executive leadership positions within the energy industry, including chief executive officer, chief restructuring officer, and senior advisor for various energy companies including Trinity Coal Corporation, American Resources Offshore, Inc., Lexington Coal Company, and Lipari Energy Inc. Mr. Stetson earned a bachelor of science degree from Murray State University, a juris doctor degree from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville, and a master of business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame.

 

Jim Campbell


James (Jim) Campbell has served as President and Chief Operating Officer since the inception of Coronado Coal in 2011 and holds fiscal responsibilities along with health, safety, operations, sales and marketing. With 40 years of experience in the coal industry he has significant knowledge and experience in operations, executive management and leadership, as well as global met sales and marketing. Prior to joining Coronado, he was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Creek Energy and Strata Fuels. James holds Bachelor degrees in Mining Engineering from West Virginia University and Civil Engineering from West Virginia Institute of Technology. He also holds an Executive MBA from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business.

 

John Schroder


John Schroder is the Chief Executive Officer of United Coal Company.  Mr. Schroder started his mining career with US Steel Mining in 2000.  He rose through the management ranks at US Steel Mining, PinnOak, and Drummond before joining UCC in 2006.  At these previous companies, John led efforts in operations and engineering. Engineering projects included project management of the construction of a Syn-fuel Plant, ventilation projects at deep mines, and roof control analysis during longwall retreat.  Much of his operations experience at US Steel, PinnOak, and Drummond was around longwall mining of mass production in some of the best met coal seams in the world.  John helped optimize and drive safe production at these operations as he effectively coordinated with all departments and management levels to achieve desired results. During his time at UCC, Mr. Schroder has been in various positions including Mine Superintendent, Process Improvement Director, Subsidiary President, and VP of Operations.  John helped successfully lead process improvement initiatives throughout UCC that had multi-million dollar uplifts to the company’s bottom line.  He also helped compliantly resurrect the Affinity Mine with implementation of high safety standards that yielded production improvements and reduction in costs. Mr. Schroder earned a master of business administration from West Virginia University and a bachelor of science in mining engineering from Virginia Tech.

 

Randall Atkins


Randall Atkins, founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, of Ramaco Resources will not be able to attend the conference this year, however expressed his commitment to the mission of the MCPA. “Ramaco Resources is a proud founding member of the MCPA.  We value our partnership with our fellow met producing members and associate members of the association,” Atkins said.  “Although I cannot be at this year’s conference, I share my colleagues’ vision for our industry.  Through industry events such as these, we can build a broad coalition of supporters who will help usher in a new perspective on our industry through metallurgical coal.”
