October 23, 2021 - Paul G. Spedding, a member of a respected British-born mining family who devoted their lives to serving the American coal industry, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 1, 2021 in Moon Twp., PA. Paul, of Morgantown, WV, was 62 and was born September 6, 1959 in Prestatyn, North Wales, to Matthew Spedding and the late Hilda (Salt) Spedding. His Dad served the American coal industry for over half a century and Paul followed in his footsteps and devoted his own life to establishing his own company to offer products and services to the coal industry which he loved. Paul was the most wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend anyone could ever have.

Paul began his career employed by Dowty Corporation of Zelienople, PA one of the pioneers of longwall mining in the U.S. and manufacturer of shields and face conveyors as well as belt conveyors. Over the years he rose to the senior position of Regional Sales Manager for the West. Following that he joined an Australian company as Vice President of Operations, where he remained till 2008. Paul always wanted to run his own company so he assembled a range of products and founded P.G.S. & Associates LLC. For the last 13 years, Paul owned and operated P.G.S. & Associates, which he enjoyed immensely. His company’s mission was to provide the most innovative solutions to technical problems on a global scale and to be second to none with attention to details and service. The companies that were represented included: Webster Equipment, Hyden Engineering, New Cut Tool, LSI, Glenco Mining Services, ACME Industries and 5DT. Paul could often be seen at events and trade shows around the country always greeting his friends and customers with a big smile and a cheerful disposition. With the passage of time, his business grew and prospered under Paul’s leadership. Apart from his business, Paul was an avid reader and wordsmith and never lost a game of Words with friends. He devoted himself to his family, always loving his wife’s cooking, and was at his happiest when he sat round the dining room table with his wife and children. Paul will be remembered as a strong, hardworking man, who loved his family dearly and provided for them well. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of Paul’s friends for their love and support. In addition to his father, Matt Spedding, Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 29 years, Yolanda (Cochran) Spedding; his daughters Ashley Ann and Emily Pauline Spedding; his sister, Jane Spedding; and his great-niece and great-nephews, Leah Rose Goettman, Jack Michael Goettman, and Michael Bruce Goettman, Jr. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Spedding on November 18, 2018, and a nephew, Michael Bruce Goettman on March 12, 2005. Friends were received from 2-4 P.M on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Twp., PA 16066.
