March 11, 2023 - Last week, American steelmakers fired, cast, and forged 1.6 million tons of iron and steel using 715,000 tons of coke made from 1.2 million tons of metallurgical coal.

Met coal from the Mountain State accounted for 922,521 tons of the coal used last week to make the highest quality, strongest American steel. 

West Virginia is the nation’s largest producer of metallurgical coal, the largest supplier of met coal to the domestic steel industry and the largest met coal exporting state in the nation.
