January 22, 2024 - In 2023, West Virginia coal was shipped to 105 locations in 30 different states.

Steam coal was shipped to 46 power plants to generate the most reliable and inexpensive electricity in the country.  Thermal coal was also delivered to 13 other industrial plants, where it was used to make process heat or as feedstock for chemical manufacturing.  West Virginia’s Best in the World metallurgical coal was shipped to eight coke-making plants in seven states.

From there, the finished coke was delivered to 25 blast furnaces, foundries, electric arc furnaces, industrial forges, and ferroalloy plants located in 23 states.

Mountain State thermal and met coal headed to customers around the world was delivered to 13 international coal export facilities.
