January 28, 2024 - Last week, West Virginia miners loaded 392 river barges with about 600,000 tons of Mountain State thermal and metallurgical coal.  As a single river tow, it would be 21 miles long.

Coal accounts for 70% of the commercial shipping on West Virginia’s navigable river systems.
