February 27, 2024 - EIA has released the February 2024 Electricity Monthly Update with data for December 2023. The following are some highlights:

  • Wholesale natural gas and electricity prices were highest in New England in December, which is not an uncommon occurrence when temperatures fall and pipelines fill to capacity in this region.

  • December electricity system daily peak demand remained towards the lower end of the 12-month range on most selected systems during the month.

  • All regions of the country had a year-over-year decrease in electricity generation, mainly due to record warm temperatures during December 2023.
