February 27, 2024 - MCPA is co-sponsoring the annual Arbor Day celebration with Virginia Department of Energy.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024. The site is in Buchanan County on a United-Wellmore Coal site. There will be 130 9th grade students from Grundy and Hurley schools participating. 

Arbor Day, which literally translates to “tree” day from the Latin origin of the word arbor—is a holiday that celebrates the planting. Upkeep and preservation of trees.  The tree holiday is meant to encourage companies and people to plant new trees and to recognize the value of trees on land that has been mined, or in their yards and the benefits trees provide throughout their community. The coal industry has planed millions of trees throughout the years. 

MCPA provides backpacks, hats and pays for the rental of port-a-johns, tents, tables and chairs for the chosen site each year as well as lunch. 

Therefore, we are asking for your financial support for the 2024 Arbor Day.  Donations range from $1000.00 to $500.00 however, any amount will be greatly appreciated. 

Your immediate attention given to this request will be greatly appreciated as orders must be placed for critical needed items to ensure the success of the annual 2024 Arbor Day.
