March 4, 2024 - West Virginia has more longwall mining systems than any other state.  With 10 longwall systems operating at nine underground mines, the Mountain State leads the way in the most efficient and safe underground extraction technology.

West Virginia is also home to one of the newest longwall mining systems in the world at the recently commissioned Century Mine in Barbour County, WV.
