Seven Workers Remained Buried in China's Coal Mine for Five Days, All Died Due to Lack of Help

March 17, 2024 - All seven miners trapped since Monday in an underground warehouse of a coal mine in northern China’s Shanxi province have died. Due to lack of timely help from the Chinese administration to the workers trapped in the mine for 5 days, none of the workers could be saved. Now the bodies of all of them have been recovered. Local officials confirmed this on Friday. Coal mine owner Gao Naichun said that at midnight on Monday, when the miners were repairing a coal feeder, a pile of coal in the warehouse collapsed, burying seven people.

The last body was recovered on Friday during a rescue operation at a coal mine of Taoyuan Xinlong Coal Industrial Corporation, located in Zhongyang County, according to the county administration. After this the rescue operation was ended. Gao said that the collapse of coal in the coal mine broke water pipes, causing water all around and causing problems during the rescue operation.

Death of workers is common in China’s coal mines.

Government news agency Xinhua said that further investigation is being done in this matter. There is huge demand for energy in China throughout the year. Coal mine accidents are common there and a large number of miners are injured, as they mostly work under poor safety conditions. China forces workers to work for a few rupees and even safety standards are not met.
