Meet One Man Who's Introducing Mining
To Students at Penn State University

Welcome to the December edition of CORESafety TV’s “Stories from the Field,” brought to you by the National Mining Association.

These days, there aren’t quite as many college students enrolled in Mining Engineering classes as there once were.  Times have changed, as has the mining industry at large.

But make no mistake – for those who are choosing to follow this course of study at various U.S. schools, or even just taking elective classes, there is still plenty of interest being expressed in the future of mining.

Sekhar Bhattacharyya is an associate teaching professor at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. He shares his insights into mining with a small, but spellbound, group of students each week.

Recently, CORESafety’s Paul Krivokuca paid a visit to the school to meet with Professor Bhattacharyya, Undergraduate Program Chair Barbara Arnold and some Mining 230 students.
