The finished plaque was viewed last week by the club's vice-president, Craig Bennet, who described it as an "impressive item."

He said: "We were invited by our co-ordinators of the project, CV Carmichael Blacksmiths, to view the finished article at their Mossmorran base and it is an impressive item.

"Carmichaels will be organizing the installation of the plaque at the site chosen for it in Brunton Square, and it is hoped that it can be unveiled on March 16."

It also mentions some of the major collieries that contributed to the town's position at the heart of the Fife coalfield for more than 50 years.

Jim Stark, past president said: "The plaque states the role that the coal industry played in how Cowdenbeath developed to become the town it is today, and mentions some of the major collieries which were key to the town being at the heart of the Fife coalfield for over half a century."

The club will see the plaque situated across from the 'miner boy' mural in Brunton Square, on High Street.
