Henderson, KY, January 2, 2015 – Michael Munday, PE. joins Summit Engineering Inc. civil engineering group in the Western KY office. Munday is a licensed engineer in IN, KY, OH & TN with 40 years of experience in coal mining permitting.  Summit is the leading provider of Engineering and Environmental Services to the Coal Fields with decades of combined experience in mining and reclamation projects. We use state-of-the-art engineering tools in the expert hands of our technicians and environmental specialists—all qualified for a variety of mining projects: Geologic investigations, Detailed design, Permitting, Construction inspection, Financial considerations & Reclamation. 

Munday began as “Reclamation Supervisor” for Peabody in Ohio, moved back to Kentucky in 1978 with several engineering and permitting management positions, most recently “Permitting Manager” for Patriot’s Midwest Engineering and Operations (Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois). He joins Summit Engineering’s mining department to continue Summit’s recent success providing services to many of the top companies in the area. “Summit is distinguished from other firms due to our ability and willingness to focus on our clients and ensure their goals are prioritized throughout the design process,” said Philip Elswick, President of Summit Engineering Inc. “Mike brings tremendous experience and is a great resource for our team. Munday received his Bachelors in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1979. He started working in May 1974 for Peabody Coal Company, which later became Peabody Energy Corporation; moved over to Patriot Coal Corporation (via corporate spin-off) in November 2007.  He is married and has two children.
