West Virginia Day Celebration Coming to Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum on June 20
June 14, 2025 - Residents and visitors can experience a day of West Virginia pride, culture and entertainment during the upcoming West Virginia Day Celebration at the Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum. The free event takes place Friday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the popular Beckley attraction.
Guests are invited to explore West Virginia’s rich history through live music, educational programs, local vendors and discounted tours. The Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum will both be open all day for tours, offering a unique look into the state’s mining heritage and natural history.

The event will feature live bluegrass music by Strings of Green, a local family band known for its traditional Appalachian sound. Visitors can also browse a variety of local vendor booths and enjoy refreshments throughout the day.
Throughout the celebration, attendees can take advantage of special discounted rates on tours of the historic Exhibition Coal Mine and admission to the Youth Museum, making this a perfect opportunity for families to learn about West Virginia’s coal mining legacy and natural environment.
A highlight of the day will be the “Hoot & Holler: WV Owls” program presented by the Three Rivers Avian Center at 11 a.m. This engaging wildlife education program will introduce visitors to several West Virginia owl species and a raven. Attendees will get an up-close look at:

The Three Rivers Avian Center is dedicated to avian conservation and rehabilitation, caring for injured wild birds and promoting public awareness of wildlife issues. Since its founding in 1990, the center has treated more than 4,200 wild bird patients across over 100 species native to West Virginia.
