Community Holds on to Hope as Search for Missing Miner Continues
November 13, 2025 - The Nicholas County, WV community is still hoping for the best possible outcome as crews continue to search for a miner who has been missing for more than four days.
Twentymile Creek Road and Vaughan Road border the now-flooded Rolling Thunder Mine where millions of gallons of water are being removed to further a massive rescue mission.
Traffic in the area has been continuous this week as emergency vehicles and trucks carrying equipment move up and down the roadways.
Eyewitness News spoke with Delmer Sizemore, a pastor at Vaughan Baptist Church close to the mine entrance. Sizemore has offered up his space to family members and rescue crews as the whole community is hurting and hoping with them.
“It’s all we see sitting in our living room looking out. You can just imagine the weight these people are carrying,” Sizemore said. “Probably not many, if any, know this gentlemen, but everybody knows he’s a human. This is going to affect not only us but this community. That’s a weight to carry, to not know what has happened to your friend, your neighbor or your husband.”
The pastor said he knows hearts will be heavy as he prepares for a Wednesday service, but wants to offer a message of hope to those who attend.
There is still hope and determination at the mine site. Eyewitness News has a crew on scene Wednesday evening and will continue to keep viewers updated as we learn more.
