Senators Propose December 6 as National Miners Day to Honor Miners' Service
December 4, 2025 - Senators Jim Justice (R-WV) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) today introduced a bipartisan resolution designating Dec. 6, 2025, as National Miners Day to honor the service, sacrifice and contributions of miners across the United States.
The resolution recognizes miners’ role in powering homes supporting industry and sustaining critical supply chains. It also encourages communities to organize local and national events that celebrate miners and acknowledge the risks they face on the job.
Our miners have always been the backbone of this nation.
In West Virginia our coal miners do the gritty demanding work every single day, and we couldn’t be prouder. They power our homes fuel our industries and keep America moving forward. Their tenacity sacrifice and dedication are the true embodiment of West Virginia and our nation — they deserve recognition for their work.
- Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV)
Every Dec. 6 we celebrate National Miners Day to recognize our nation’s hardworking miners.
Arizona is home to more than 58,900 miners who help supply 71% of America’s copper which in turn supports our energy grid national defense manufacturing and infrastructure. I’m proud to help lead today’s resolution to honor these miners and to reaffirm our commitment to keeping miners safe and healthy.
- Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ)
The resolution is bipartisan and backed by a broad group of Senate colleagues, including Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), John Hoeven (R-ND), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Angus King (I-ME), Mike Lee (R-UT), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), James Risch (R-ID), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), John Fetterman (D-PA), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Tina Smith (D-MN).
