December 15, 2025 - Winter is approaching, and with it comes a rise in energy demand across the U.S. Our power grid is tasked with keeping lights on and homes warm, and coal is an important foundation for energy reliability. Coal generation has come to the rescue during winter months in the past, and is ready to do so again, meaning the U.S. needs coal.

Peabody is the largest U.S. coal producer with 10 operations spanning six states. Peabody has demonstrated that coal-fueled generation could meet the growing need for power in the U.S. for many years. At Peabody’s North Antelope Rochelle Mine alone, Peabody produced 60 million tons of coal in 2024, which could power millions of homes for a year. Coal producers help do their part to power our homes and keep us warm as winter arrives.
