Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary Continued Coal in the Classroom

April 12, 2026 - Coal touches the lives of West Virginians in nearly every part of everyday life.

From the steel that frames our buildings to the energy that keeps the lights on, coal makes it all possible.

The Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary continued their mission with another year of “Coal in the classroom.”

The dedicated group of ladies teaches 3rd-grade classes at Saint Francis de Sales in Beckley and at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic School in Oak Hill, the history of mining culture, and how it continues to impact our everyday lives.

The group feels it’s important to begin teaching kids the story of coal at an early age to impact their future.
