Pocahontas, VA Opens Electric Vehicle Chargers at Historic Coal Mine
April 14, 2026 - Pocahontas, VA celebrated the opening of two electric vehicle chargers at its exhibition coal mine with a ribbon cutting Monday.
The site is the location of the first coal mine in the coal field named after the town.
Mayor Benjamin Gibson said the town wants to make the mine more accessible to tourists.
“There’s not a viable or available charger anywhere close. So this gives them another option. It’s in more of a rural area but now they’ll be more comfortable to come to visit the mines because there’s a charger if they have an electric vehicle,” Gibson said.
Virginia Clean Cities helped the town obtain the grant.
