Tour One of the World's Only University-Owned Mines
May 7, 2026 - Welcome to a tour of the Edgar Experimental Mine at Colorado School of Mines, a place where history, education and cutting-edge research all meet underground.
Originally discovered during the Colorado Gold Rush in the early 1860s, this mine once produced silver, lead, and gold. Today, it’s been transformed into a hands-on training and research facility where students learn in a real underground environment.
From active classrooms carved into rock, to explosive training areas and advanced research spaces, this is not your typical college experience.
