EPA has rolled out final rules requiring coal-fired power plants in the United States to reduce 90% of their greenhouse pollution into the next decade, prompting a backlash by political figures in coal-focused West Virginia.

These efforts advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s historic climate agenda, strengthen energy security and grid resilience, and reduce energy costs by bringing low-cost clean electricity to more families and businesses.

EPA on Thursday finalized new regulations targeting pollution from power plants, including a landmark rule that requires sweeping reductions in carbon emissions from existing coal and new gas plants to combat climate change.
